The Ukrainian army was born based on the military districts of the USSR, reflected in its identity. However, after the annexation of Crimea and the events in Donbas in 2014, it became clear that we had to be different from the enemy and have our own heroes and historical parallels.
The volunteer group "New Army" decided to help create a new identity for our military, including, among other things, a new design of uniforms and patches.
Since 2014, the Ukrainian army has gained more continuity from the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) and the Ukrainian Revolution (1917-1921), which emphasizes the unity of the struggle of all generations of Ukrainian history.
